The last week of term!

This is the last week of term! Hooray we made it! We are all very tired so pray for a good rest over Christmas and that we will be refreshed by the eternal message of what this season celebrates. There have been many Christmas assemblies so far, our favourite being an assembly that uses Tim Hughes "Here I am to worship" song and then puts sign language to it.
We have been touched by the children's responsiveness and the way that many have made it into an act of worship.
Please pray for the real meaning of Christmas to touch children and staff afresh

A new school year!

Term has begun!
We have just got back from a team retreat to Bernard's Acre where we also met with some associate workers and directors. It was a good time of team bonding and envisioning for the year! We're particularly excited about the new associate workers who have come on board with us, Rosie and Joel from Riverside, Rachel from St Leonard's and other contact workers from Belmont. I am sure that there will be more people working with us throughout the year so we look forward to how God is going to work in schools this year.

We were really encouraged by the evaluation forms that we received back from schools. Here are some comments - not to blow our own trumpets, but to encourage you in your praying!

Hannah's sabbatical ideas

I've been at ICE 7 years now which means that I am granted a 6 week sabbatical which I'm taking over the summer!....
Here are my ideas for how I'll spend the time.

Hannah’s 6 week sabbatical plan Mon 20th July-Mon 31st August 2009
Here are my thoughts and timings (in italics) using the prompts from the handbook…
The sabbatical may consist of some or all of the following:

• Period of rest and spiritual reflection (Keswick convention Sun 18th-Fri 24th July) also potentially a day visit to New Wine?
• Time to read (there are several books that I would like to read)
• Opportunity to spend quality time with spouse/family (our aim is to visit parents over this time and spend some quality time with my non- Christian school friends)
• Time to observe others in a similar line of ministry (Fri 7th-Sat 8th August DCYC girls camp – observing children’s worker Lauren McConnell in her role as speaker)
• Other relevant activities which the member of staff has been unable to undertake due to pressure of work (I would like to spend some time fleshing out a team devotional book particularly geared towards youth worker devotional times as I don’t think there are many if any books like this).

Another busy week!....... We have been really encouraged with the number of children taking the DCYC summer camps leaflets that we've plugged in assemblies. We've run out on 2 occassions! Please pray for the DCYC summer camps - they are an excellent way to dig deeper into what being a Christian is all about and they are such great value too! Anne-Marie will be going to girls camp this year and Hannah will be popping down to visit as she is on sabbatical from Monday 20th July until the 1st September......more on that to follow!

It's that time of year again! The MOUSE project kicks in again! No we're not talking to children about infestations, MOUSE stands for Moving On Up to Secondary Education. These are lessons based on the life of Joseph and the choices, challenges and changes he faced. We're offering it to 14 schools this year (a record number!) and we've already had one booking already!
We'll let you know what the prayer points from these lessons are...as we offer children a chance to post a prayer in our prayer box at the end of the lesson.

It's the end of a 1/2 term - hooray!
We've especially enjoyed our Prince Caspian lunch club series this 1/2 term and our Wallace and Gromit clip that we've used in many assemblies!
Below is out timetable for the first week back (look at my organisational skills!)
We're using a different format in lunch clubs this coming 1/2 term. Our numbers always seem to suffer because of the lovely hot weather outside(!) This series we'll be doing more God slots and less games and quizzes...We'll let you know how it all goes! Thank you for your prayer support!

Saw a very precious sight the other day. I was driving into a school car park and there was a child who had fallen over and hurt himself. He was crying and a teacher was kneeling beside him. This child threw his arms round the teachers neck and help him for several moments.
I thought it was such a lovely picture of what comfort we as adults can offer children.

The LIFE exhibition

Here are some photos from the recent LIFE exhibition! Above are the PDAs (hand-held computers). Each child was given one of these and interacted with it by answering questions, listening to music and watching videos on it. The questions that they answered were then captured by the network and each child received a detailed print out of their results!

This is a photo of Karis in the Life Talks pod. Children spent 10 minutes in each pod. This pod was about the words that Jesus used.
The last zone was the cafe zone where we got a chance to hear what the children thought about the exhibition. Many children highlighted the best bit as being using the PDAs. Many children were also moved by the Life Giver zone (in the background of this photo). This was a cinematic zone with matching lights and video footage all about Jesus' death and resurrection.

We were so impressed with the exhibition and the comments we received back from teachers and pupils that we have proviosionally booked it for 2 years time!

LIFE has officially finished. It has been a fantastic couple of weeks - hard work - but great team work! Here's a quote from a teacher....

"Just a quick note to say a big THANK YOU for all involved in our visit todayThe children (and staff) enjoyed the interactive and thought provoking nature of the exhibition very stimulating.We had interesting discussions back at school afterwards. Your team was very friendly and welcoming.Thank you for giving the children such a great RE experience".

Thank you for all praying - we know it made such a difference and will continue making a difference. We saw many children and adults coming to understand more about Jesus. This is exciting!
