What an end to the term!

We have had such an encouraging lunch club!
Competing with school Christmas dinner at this particular school we didn't think we would get many children at this club. We have been following the Lion the witch and the wardrobe - watching a DVD clip each week and then relating it to the Christian life. One child, after listening carefully to me relating the crowning ceremony at Cair Paravel to how I believe God has plan for us in heaven told us in front of the whole group that she wanted to be on God's side!
We explored what being a Christian means, as a whole group and with no prompting from us, all 10 children at the end wanted to pray to ask Jesus to be a part of their lives.

Update from Hannah

Thanks to all of you who have been praying for me. This week has been really calming compared to last and I've had some really good conversations with children. We've also had lots of boys to our Ladysmith and Pinhoe lunch clubs so that is really encouraging! Stoke Hill lunch club has also greatly increased in numbers - with some boys as well!

I don't think I've done a proper update about the residential. I have a great time building relationships with staff and children through numerous activities- especially as we faced our fears of climbing, abseiling and caving together! I got a lovely thank you card from the teacher in charge of the residential who thanked me for my Christian witness. I was really encouraged by this.

Hi all
I'd like to ask for your specific prayers please.
We've had a really busy few weeks here at ICE with some tough children at times and I'm feeling particularly frazzled. I feel like I could sleep for a week!
Please pray that I will have a restful weekend. Next week is less busy so that is good. As you know with this job it's pretty much go go go all the time and I've really struggled at times over these last couple of weeks particularly.

Primary Schools timetable after 1/2 term

I know this is timetabling ahead of schedule but Hannah won't be in the office in the week after 1/2 term as she'll be away with a school on a residential trip to Heatree House activity centre from Mon 3rd - Fri 7th Nov. This is an excellent way to build relationships with staff and pupils and she is really looking forward to it! There's talk of going caving too!
As a result there will be a slightly truncated timetable in other schools, although we have only had to cancel an after school club and a lunch club for this week - pretty good going we think! Please pray for Anne-Marie and Karis who will steer the team this particular week. They'll be kicking off our new lunch club series based on the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe!

LIFE Exhibition

We have an exciting exhibition that we are offering to all the primary year 6 pupils that we work with! LIFE exhibition is coming to Exeter (based at Belmont Chapel) from March 23rd - Thurs 2nd April. It's an interative exhibition with hand held computer and different learning zones. The theme is the life of Jesus. We're looking forward to this time but we also would love your prayers for the exhibition - we will need lots of volunteers to help set up/ run the sessions/ man the cafe etc. Please prayerfully consider if you or anyone you know could offer us a morning or afternoon slot during this time. We'd be very grateful. Thank you!

Update for Secondary Schools: WC 29 September

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to keep you up to date with what has been going on this week.

St James High School:
Ed and I recently had a great conversation with Helen Salmon to talk about future projects. The potentials are exciting, and it is brilliant to see some new people coming on board as associate workers. It is our plan that these people will become involved with Ed in St James. Please thank God for providing the people to support Ed in leading the work in this school. Please pray for wisdom and for great relationships with the school community and the ICE Team.

Josh Gudipati new Associate Worker:
You will see from the diary recently published, that we have a new Associate Worker with us in St Luke's. Josh Gudipati has recently joined ISCA church from SWYM, and as part of his time in Exeter he will be working with Ed in St James. Before moving into this school he is spending some time with Ed and I in St Luke's as a period of training and settling in into schools work. Please pray for him as he starts his schools ministry with the secondary schools team.

Recent Lessons:
Ed and I took part in a Year 7 Learning to Learn class on Monday, who were thinging about the topic of 'Beliefs: Why do people believe in God?'. In the lesson the students had planned questions to throw at both of us around this subject. Both Ed and I were surprised at the depth of some of the questions they asked. These included; Do you believe in Heaven and Hell? How did you become a Christian? Why do you believe in God? ... and of course the age old how many lego bricks can you fit in a mini? :)

In another three lessons on Tuesday I had the great opportunity to explain why I believe in God, and how He has made an impact on my life. All these RE lessons were for Year 10 students thinking about the topic of Beliefe in God and Religious Experiences. It was incredible that this then spilt over in to yesterdays lunch time, when a student asked how else I had seen God at work in my life.

It's all go in the primary schools team!

We have had a cracking start to the term, many schools have booked us up for the whole year! This is not only really encouraging but also very helpful in planning our timetable!
Just today we've been booked up for 2 sets of R.E. lessons in one school over the next couple of weeks, one set on Jesus as an inspirational person and another set on how faith can be demonstarted through the arts. Please pray for these opportunities as R.E. lessons are a great way of deepening our relationships with the school, pupils and teachers.

We're also hoping to start 2 after school clubs, hopefully after half-term so watch this space!!
